The Sage Cafe
On most days this centrally located café near the Milk Market has queues of people waiting to lunch on their healthy food, and it’s easy to see why.
From the green and white striped awning (which has tables underneath on fine days) to the cool greeny-white of the interior, there is an air of clean, green calm about the place.
It’s roomy and light, with some banquette seating around the walls, a few contemporary oil paintings and wooden tables.
They do lovely fresh-flavoured lunch dishes (an eclectic collection, including samosas, aromatic Indian dishes, good steaks – and a great fish bake) and, through the afternoon when the savoury choices will have run out, there will be great home bakes, including scones, iced carrot cake, gooey chocolate cake, baked orange cheesecake, banana and walnut cake and almond cake, maybe served with a dollop of whipped cream and a giant strawberry and there are some gluten-free choices.
Seats 50; children welcome (high chair); toilets wheelchair accessible; air conditioning. Food served Mon-Sat, 9-5.30pm; L 12-4pm. Closed Sun, Bank Hols, Christmas week. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
