Those who remember Noel’s popular restaurant on Mountshannon’s main street should be happy to find this relaxed and cheerful little place in the same premises.
The whitewashed building is instantly appealing, with a small garden to the front where a couple of tables are set out in fine weather, or candles in the windows gleaming out. Inside, there are deeply comfortable black leather chairs to sink into, books to read and another garden to the rear, also with tables.
To a background of quiet jazz music, your order is taken and if things are busy you may be seated in the large room alongside, which is available for art exhibitions, concerts and other events.
The menu is simple – starters consist of various types of toppings for crostini – pesto and toasted pinenuts, homemade pate, tapenade etc – and main courses are a choice of pizza ,or salads and pasta dishes.
But although the range is limited, what they produce is very popular: the pizza is agreeably thin-based and cooked in a wood-burning oven. (Be warned, though, that they are cooked in pairs so, if ordering more than two, it’s best to share and wait for the next delivery.)
