The Stables Emporium & Tea Rooms

The Boyd family’s characterful establishment is in a lovely old Georgian house overlooking the tree-lined mall.

It was renowned for many years as one of the area’s favourite restaurants - now it is run by Caroline Boyd, who has transformed it into a high quality furniture and gift shop, Emporium at the Stables.

The store, which is located in the atmospheric old coach house, stocks crystal and glassware, fine furniture, lighting, garden accessories, jewellery and giftware. (Worldwide delivery can be arranged).

Meanwhile, in the main house, light lunches, snacks, wine, tea, coffee and homemade desserts are served in the elegant drawing room, complete with open fire and comfortable armchairs, also a rather nice little front garden for sitting out in fine weather.

Open Tue-Sat, 10.30-5.30 and Sun 1-5.30 (Nov, Dec, Jun, Jul & Aug). Children welcome; air conditioning; toilets wheelchair accessible. Closed Dec 25-29. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.

Directions:

Town centre, between St Brendan's church & private gates of Birr castle.
