Those in search of a restaurant with wow factor will not be disappointed by La Stampa’s Dining Room and its lofty interior. Soaring ceilings lit with stained glass panels, sparkling chandeliers, thick drapes, starched linen and plush seating set the tone for a fine dining room that’s both elegant and glamorous. A headless winged statue presides over diners, bathed in gentle light as they eat.
The celebrated restaurant may have seen many name changes and celebrity chef associations in recent years, but the same head chef, Malcolm Starmer, has been manning the stoves here for four years.
This Dublin restaurants menus feature an appealing mix of classics from many different cuisines. Expect to find the likes of duck leg confit with risotto alongside stuffed baby squid with feta and chorizo; chicken liver parfait with brioche alongside grilled cod with crab and scallop ravioli.
Pork lovers should not miss an indulgent main course, belly of sucking pig with choucroute, black pudding, and purée root vegetables – very well executed with lovely balance of flavours and textures, and beautiful presentation, this is a treat.
Desserts include crowd-pleasers like crème brulée, fruit crumble and lemon posset. Flavours are clean and fresh, with each dish well cooked and presented with thoughtful accompaniments.
The Dining Room has a wide ranging wine list with plenty of options by the glass, as well as several half bottles. Prices are not greedy, and there are several specials that may tempt you to blow the budget on a special occasion. There’s a good selection of cocktails and spirits too, which can be taken at your table or enjoyed in the restaurant’s chic little bar pre- or post- dining, giving a real sense of occasion.
Although not cheap (and 12.5% service charge applies to tables of 5+), the cooking is of a high standard and the service won’t let you down.
The Dining Room has lost none of its renowned glamour and panache. Tables are a little crammed in, however, and it can be difficult to move through the room at times.
Attracting a slightly older crowd, it’s still a fashionable spot for a celebration or romantic date.
