Grove House - Events & Writers Retreat

Grove House - Schull County Cork IrelandOverlooking Schull Harbour, this beautifully restored period house offers quality, relaxed surroundings and great food just a few minutes walk from the main street, and run by Katarina Runske and her son Nico Runske.

Grove House has a few extras in store this year. It’s time for a facelift, with a new conservatory extension to the dining room planned for this summer; providing an extra special ambience for meals and a lovely backdrop to our ever-increasing list of music gigs, art exhibitions and events.

Restaurant

If you’re looking for a delicious meal, they continue to offer a full a la carte menu, as well as a recession-busting 3-course set menu which costs €23 and has three choices per course. In addition, Grove House is now open on Sunday’s for a traditional roast, with all the trimmings, plus desert - for just €17.

And to make sure you enjoy the tastiest meal possible, they do their best to source all of their produce locally, including from their own garden! The vegetable plots are dug and the tunnel is on its way. They are expanding their garden so you can enjoy the freshest, home-grown greens.

Our three course set menu (with at least 6 choices per course) is €25
Double rooms are €80 per night with full breakfast included.

Writers’ retreat

Grove House is the perfect haven for writers; bright, spacious rooms with big writing desks, an extensive library, atmospheric decor and peaceful surroundings - you can even request a sea view at no extra cost. There are plenty of beautiful local walks and they are only a few minutes walk away from the friendly local bars. During your stay, they will make sure that you have everything that you need so you can concentrate on what’s important; your writing.

George Bernard Shaw stayed at Grove House in 1904 (you can see his signature in the guestbook upon request) and was inspired to write a poem about his stay. We’ve had writers secure agents and publication during their stay here - you never know where your writing retreat might lead you!
