St. Patrick’s Day Festival Sligo

Thursday 17th March 2011

The Sligo St. Patrick’s Day Parade will start at Mail Coach Road at 12 noon and travel through the town centre, finishing at Pearse Road. This is the 41st year of the parade, the largest parade in the North West.

In recent years nearly a dozen bands from Northern Ireland have joined in the celebrations. Commercial life is richly represented by floats of all shapes and sizes. Local schools add great colour to the parade and display creative artistic talent.

The Sligo parade is a multi-cultural event with a blend of Irish and international entries. There is always an element of surprise, coupled with a magic atmosphere. It’s fun for participants and spectators, for young and old.

Furthermore an evening of celebration will take place soon afterwards when prize winners from the parade will receive their prizes. Pipe Band and Concert Band recital. There will be Irish, Scottish and ballroom dancing. Refreshments served.
