It's all about great farm produce at Drumanilra Farm Kitchen, and it's hard to think of any remotely similar enterprise anywhere in Ireland.
Having inherited his uncle's farm overlooking Lough Key, Liam Gavin and his wife Justina relocated to Ireland in 2012 and are now living 'The Good Life' here, with their young family. Gavin had enjoyed many working holidays with his uncle as youngster, and the couple set about revitalising their 40 acre farm with gusto, including organic conversion which was completed in 2015.
The Drumanilra Farm Kitchen, which is just one part of this wonderful family enterprise, is the 'settled' home of the couple's Shepherd's Hut food truck that has been a familiar sight at shows and festivals of late. Their own rare breed meats - Dexter Beef and Tamworth pork - are the starting point for the handmade burgers and hot dogs that they serve with artisan breads and locally grown salads.
Simple wholesome food is what they do and the word is spreading, so people are coming from miles around in search of the heritage burgers and hot dogs, and other good things like nourishing soups, casseroles, sandwiches and salads, that can be eaten inside, or out in the garden (where there's playing space for children), or taken away - in eco-friendly packaging, of course.
Aside from the organic ingredients that they produce themselves - and they have sheep and poultry as well as the cattle and pigs - everything they use is organic and locally grown and sourced wherever possible.
They also have a small farm shop onsite at the farm kitchen, which stocks their own organic meats and some from other local organic producers, locally grown organic vegetables, and a deli range including Irish farmhouse cheeses, freshly baked breads and charcuterie.
