Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Niall & Niamh Walsh’s smart two-storey deli and café near the harbour is known for its good wholesome fare and there are no short cuts taken – they bake their breads freshly every morning, using organic flour and a 3 day fermentation process for their fabulous sourdough specialities.

Coarse wholemeal bread, spelt bread and white and granary sourdough loaves are all available daily, and other specialities include their own sourdough panini, baps and rolls, and a granary sandwich loaf.

Cakes are all made on the premises, using only the best wholesome fresh ingredients. Scones, cup cakes and other sweet treats like sticky buns and lemon meringue tarts are baked fresh daily, and best Valrhona chocolate is used in chocolate cakes - in must-try Valrhona chocolate lava pudding, perhaps...

They also make all their own stocks, with soups and sauces all made from scratch (‘there is no bouillon in our kitchen’!). And not only do they they support local producers, including Moyvalley Meats (beef) and Newbridge Meats (pork), but they dry cure bacon, dry age beef sirloins - and even churn butter and culture buttermilk in-house.

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the Walshes do their bit for the environment too – even using water from the coffee machine to water flowers and plants in summer to avoid waste.

Eden Deli promises ‘breakfast, lunch, cakes & treats’, and this it does exceptionally well -  chargrilled chicken with Mediterranean tomato sauce and sauteed potatoes is as tasty a lunch as you'll find anywhere, and you should try one of their delicious old-fashioned butterfly buns. Portions are generous and, with soup & sandwiches at around €7.50 and a steak sandwich for about €9.50, it’s good value too.

A good little place to break a journey and stock up with some nice bits and pieces if you’re on the way home.

Occasional cookery classes are also offered.
