Right on the shores of Lough Derg, there can hardly be a better location than Barry and Mary Holloway’s B&B just outside Ballina/Killaloe, which has two acres of garden stretching down to the lake.
With a private harbour, boat house and boat hire available, it’s an ideal spot for a fishing holiday - one of the most popular activities - and it’s also ideal as a base for exploring this beautiful region and surrounding areas.
Aside from watersports and lake cruises (boat hire available on site, also passenger cruise from Killaloe), there is walking and horseriding nearby and there are many places of interest to visit in the vicinity; Limerick city is only a short drive away, and County Clare is just across the bridge that links the twin towns.
With just three spacious en-suite bedrooms – one downstairs and two upstairs - the lodge is quiet and relaxing. A comfortable sitting room has a fine brick fireplace with an oil-burning stove and there are books a-plenty to browse before bed.
Dinner isn’t offered but there’s a picnic/barbecue area in the garden, which guests are welcome to use, and several excellent places to eat in nearby Killaloe.
A good breakfast includes a range of meats and cheeses as well as cooked options and Barry is a natural host, making this a very pleasant place to stay.
