Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. La Vissuta

Well known chef Pedro Ledesma took over La Vissuta in 2022, bringing a taste of the Mediterranean to the heart of Tuam town. With its warm atmosphere, hearty food, fairly priced wine list, beers and cocktails, it's just the place for a good night out..
Seats 56 (+outdoors/smoking area). Open Thu-Sat 5-9pm, Sun 4-9pm. A la carte. Early D Thu & Fri 5-6pm (2-course menu c. €20). Children's menu. Wines from c. €25; beers, cocktails. Wheelchair accessible toilet. MasterCard, Visa. abbreviations

A classic Italian-style restaurant in the heart of Tuam, this popular spot is one of the few places in the town offering evening dining and its central location and crowd-pleasing menu make it appealing to locals and visitors alike.

A Madrid native who has made Tuam his home, chef-proprietor Pedro Ledesma brought decades of experience in the Galway hospitality industry (including over ten years in Tuam) when he took over La Vissuta in spring 2022, determined to create a taste of the Mediterranean with Irish ingredients - and a buzzy night out - in his adopted town.

There are plenty of crowd pleasers - arancini and minestrone are on the starter menu, for example, with pizza, pasta, chicken, Catch of the Day and Steak on a Stone all popular main course choices - and there's very much a local flavour to the cooking, with Gerry Mullins Butchers, Glancy’s Fish and Galway Cheese just three of the suppliers named. Favourites on the dessert menu includes well-made tiramisu and panna cotta, and the excellent coffee is from coffee.ie in nearby Milltown.

So, not a place for for cutting edge cuisine, but for caring cooking of hearty food and great hospitality. The setting is relaxed, with smiling staff ensuring that everyone is well looked after and happy diners creating plenty of atmosphere - and Pedro comes out of the kitchen to say hello to everyone.

A good chef who knows what his customers like, Pedro Ledesma lays the emphasis on personal, friendly service, genuine value and atmosphere - all this plus beers on tap, a well-priced wine list and cocktails make La Vissuta a good choice for a night out.

Castlebar is a town that tries harder when it comes to quality food with a relaxed ambience, so it's no wonder that Barry and Helen Ralph's new business quickly found a niche when they opened House of Plates in their home town in 2016. The concept is a little different ...
