Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Outstanding Location, building or atmosphere

Powerscourt Terrace Café

Renowned for interesting salads, home-bakes and good pastries, Avoca cafés also offer excellent vegetarian dishes... lots of deliciously healthy food
Seats 160 (outdoors, 60). Open daily 9.30am-5pm. House wine about €15. Children welcome; toilets wheelchair accessible. Parking (some distance from the house). Closed 25-26 Dec. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa abbreviations

In a stunning location, overlooking the famous gardens and fountains of Powerscourt House, the Pratt family of Avoca Handweavers operate this appealing self-service restaurant.

It is a delightfully relaxed space, with a large outdoor eating area as well as the café, and the style of food matches the flagship Avoca nearby at at Kilmacanogue: everything is freshly made, using as many local ingredients as possible including organic herbs and vegetables... lots of deliciously healthy food.

Avoca cafés are renowned for interesting salads, home-bakes and good pastries, and also excellent vegetarian dishes many of which, such as oven-roasted vegetable and goat’s cheese tart, have become specialities.

The shopping experience offers the usual Avoca style, with the highlight here being the garden centre which is full of temptations.
