This famous hotel stands beneath the Mountains of Mourne in six acres of public grounds, adjacent to the beach and the Royal County Down Golf Links. The Victorian holiday hotel par excellence, the Slieve Donard first opened in 1897 and has been the leading place to stay in Newcastle ever since.

Renowned for high standards – including regular refurbishment, immaculate maintenance and good housekeeping - this ‘grand old lady’ of the hospitality world has recently come into new ownership and has been treated to a major makeover, which has brought a welcome dash of style and freshness, while also having respect for the old building. Both public areas and guest rooms are furnished with verve and finished to a high standard - including the bathrooms

The hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring the Mournes or a golfing holiday and is well known for its wide range of special short breaks, which can be very good value - excellent on-site facilities include the hotel’s Elysium health club and Spa, and the nearby Tollymore Forest Park provides excellent walking.
