New Recommendation - recommended for the first time within the last 6 months 3 euro Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. The Humble Fishmonger

Opened by the O Catháin (Keane) family in summer 2026, The Humble Fishmonger is the latest chapter in a Dingle seafood story going back four generations - and far byond that in fact, to their days on the Blasket Islands.

O Cathain Iasc has been operating in Dingle as a fish business since 1976, with Ricky Keane, Kathy Keane and (GM) Michael Keane the current owners. The retail fish shop first opened in 2008, and now The Humble Fishmonger restaurant and its immersive dining experience at Wave Dingle is a natural extension of the long-established seafood business.

Unlike any other visitor experience, The Fungie Room features seaweed decor and a huge screen showing underwater Dingle scenes, featuring Fungie, dolphins and other marine species, whileThe Pirate Room is themed as an old shipwreck, with a screen introducing more unusual marine life, such as giant squid and dumbo octopus.

But fish is the family business and, far from being a gimmick, this entertaining and educational background provides an atmospheric setting for some very good locally-focused food. So, settling into the deep-blue dining rooms at Wave Dingle, where ocean scenes surround your table, you'll have plenty of delicious dishes to look forward to.

The core menu offers a balanced range of popular dishes, along with regular specials and seasonal changes, all depending on seafood availability and quality. Regular favourites include Dingle hake, Fishmonger's Feast and terrific versions of fish & chips, local oysters, seafood chowder and Dingle Bay lobster.

And this is personal: all seafood is sourced through O Cathain Iasc and key local suppliers include the Atlantic Fisher for Dingle hake (owned by Tom Kennedy and skippered by John Connor, the Keanes have worked with this family business for over 30 years), small Dingle Bay vessels for lobster, and Glenbeigh Shellfish for mussels and oysters.

The menu highlights fish that comes ashore a few hundred yards away, fish that is well handled with pride and sometimes presented by Chef Dave Krul.in a slightly different way - and always with the flavours allowed to shine true.

The most popular dishes incule the Seafood Feast (a mixed fish tray for sharing, with Guinness battered fish, Cajun calamari, grilled prawn skewers, tartar sauce, chilli sauce, coleslaw & chips.), Rockefeller Oysters, Chowder, and Crispy Calamari Salad. Children's portions are available and and there is some choice for vegetarians, vegans and other non-fish eaters too, including burgers, perhaps, or Coconut & Lime Cauliflower Tacos as well as the likes of an Egg Noodle Stir-fry with Soy, chilli, ginger, lemongrass, and seasonal vegetables.

The drinks offering is also kept as local as possible. The bar serves Guinness on draught and there's a small selection of wines by bottle and glass, but you'll also find local beers and Dingle Distillery products, alongside cocktails, minerals and non-alcoholic options.

Service is great, with enthusiastic and well trained staff happy to answer questions - and making sure that everyone orders the best possible choice and understands what is so special about this place and Dingle itself.
