Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Outstanding Location, building or atmosphere

Valentia Island Farmhouse Ice Cream

Delicious ice cream made with full fat milk and cream from the Daly family’s pedigree Holstein Friesian cows, which you will see contentedly grazing in the fields that run down to the sea - and no artificial flavourings, colours or preservatives.

Valentia Island Farmhouse Ice Cream is made with full fat milk and cream from the Daly family’s 70-strong pedigree Holstein Friesian herd, which you will see contentedly grazing in the fields that run down to the sea below the farm.

With no artificial flavourings, colours or preservatives, the beautiful ice cream is the premier product of a range that includes whole milk, buttermilk, and yoghurt. The Dalys pasteurise their milk but it is not homogenised, allowing the natural fat distribution, which is rarely seen nowadays.

The wide variety of ice cream flavours (and sorbets) can be bought or sampled in the Dalys' Ice Cream Parlour, which started as a rustic little half doored shed. While the half door remains, it has grown grown in recent times and - along with soft drinks, teas and coffees - now offers pancakes and proper milkshakes, and also postcards and gift items for sale.

There is also an outside eating area with views across the sound to the mainland - and a large, well-designed covered play area out at the back, which makes this a perfect destination for families.
