Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Yellow Door Deli & Patisserie

Open Mon-Sat 8am - 4.45pm abbreviations

Known for his unashamed fondness for 'proper food' The Yellow Door's founder, Simon Dougan, is a key figure in the Northern Ireland food scene. He has a clear vision of simple, honest food and uncompromising standards - and this philosophy is reflected in every aspect of his business.

The Yellow Door team produces a wide range of very high quality baked and deli foods - bread, pastries and savoury food - all made from the very best of fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. No additives or enhancers are used in any products - it is, as Simon says himself, " 'proper food' as it should be".

The range is very wide - a seasonal catalogue of products for home entertaining and events is available on request and gives a good indication of the variety offered, ranging through savoury and sweet dishes, sauces and preserves - but the breads in particular deserve special mention.

Made with integrity, using simple, quality ingredients and time-honoured methods, the beautiful breads baked by The Yellow Door pre-dated the current fashion for traditional techniques (notably sourdough) by many a year, and they are superb.

Simon Dougan's cookbook, 'The Yellow Door, our story, our recipes' is a must for any food lover who shares his wholesome philosophy. With photography by Cliona O'Flaherty and Sharon Hearne-Smith's honest food styling, it is a lovely book and a great read as well as a practical kitchen handbook.
