Connemara Mussel Festival - Renvyle Peninsula

Friday 4th - Sunday 6th May 2012

A celebration of Killary Mussels harvested from “One of the Forty Places to See Before you Die” takes place on the glorious Renvyle Peninsula in North Connemara.

This is the seventh year of the festival and promises that more mussels will be eaten here this weekend than in any other part of the country. Last year over a ton of mussels were eaten and organisers are set to harvest three tonnes of Killary Mussels for this year's celebrations, which includes music, craic, mussel cooking competitions, children's treasure hunts and set dancing, to name a few.

All weekend long Tully Cross, Tully and Renvyle villages will host a plethora of local traditional and cover musicians. On Saturday evening visitors will have the opportunity to join and learn real Irish Set Dancing. Mussels will be served all day every day throughout the weekend. The quest to find the best signature mussel dish among local and international chefs will keep gourmets licking their lips. Last year, tastings of Home Smoked, Thai, Indonesian and French style mussels were all on offer.

Additional activities for families and children include drama by Tegolin's Tales, and games and activities on the pitch. Each night over the weekend, there will be a selection of music from traditional to contemporary. So, for Mussels, music and fun, bring your dancing shoes to Renvyle on the May Bank Holiday Weekend 2012.
