Oughterard Show - Co Galway

Saturday 26th - Sunday 27th August 2011

Preparations are now underway for the Oughterard Show which takes place again this year.

The activities taking place on Saturday are entirely devoted to the International Connemara Performance Championships involving both local ponies and visiting pony/rider combinations from Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Catering for riders under and over 16 years of age, the classes include: International Connemara Performance Working Hunter, International Connemara Performance Ridden, and International Connemara Performance Derby. Also included are classes for Dressage and Side Saddle, as well as other family pony events.

Sunday is always a great family day out with entertainment activities for all age groups. Included in the list of events is a display of vintage cars, tractors and farm machinery, together with classes for ponies, horses, dogs, pets, sheep, cattle, donkeys and domestic arts. Another special attraction is a farmers' sheepdog competition and working sheepdog demonstration. In addition, there will be music and dance, as well as a Best Dressed Lady Competition.

This is also the 26th year of the All Ireland Ridden Registered Connemara Performance Pony Championship, currently known as the Powers' Quarry International Performance Registered Connemara Pony Championship. This takes place on Sunday and, to celebrate the anniversary, we have decided to invite back the winning owners and riders, together with the ponies - where possible. Following a parade involving ponies, owners and riders, suitable momentos will be presented to mark the special occasion.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Oughterard Show.
