Hamptons Grill

Situated right next door to the The Savoy Hotel in the heart of Limerick, this recent arrival to the city hit the ground running.

On descending the wide marble steps you will find a large, stylish restaurant-grill with plenty of buzz, which is cleverly broken into sections with little partitions and lots of mirrors and subdued lighting creating a warm ambience.

An appealing range of reasonably priced dishes is offered at lunchtime, and many reappear on the dinner menu with only a small hike in the price (so often not the case).

To begin, a really delicious home made chowder might appeal, or maybe paté with toasted brioche or a Caesar salad (larger main course salads are also an option), with main courses such as a fish-laden fish pie (served with creamy mashed turnip perhaps) or grilled steak with maitre d’hotel butter.

Interestsing choices for vegetarians might include butternut squash and sage tortellini in a classic Italian tomato sauce. Although disconcertingly tiny when they appear, desserts are so densely rich that you should find delicious little morsels like raspberry trifle or white chocolate mousse with a berry compôte te very satisfying (especially as the prices are also small).

There is a real desire to please here, with very attentive serving staff, a genial front of house manager and huge complimentary bottles of water (still or sparkling) appearing on the tables as you are seated.

The wine list offers a thoughtful selection of bottles, and also an exceptionally wide range of around 50 wines by the glass.

This stylish, accessible and well-located Limerick restaurants proving to be a real asset to a city that has seen the launch of an encouraging number of attractive hotels and restaurants in recent times.
