Lowrey's was famous for having windows which originated from Kilkenny Cathedral, but it also has many of its own original features, including a fine mahogany bar. It has been run by Anthony and Catherine O'Riordan since 1995 and they lay emphasis on the fact that it's a family-run bar and always welcoming.
Together with Eleanor Murray, who has been chef from the outset, Catherine oversees the kitchen herself and it's a good place for an fairly priced home-cooked meal - popular dishes like home-made quiche or lasagne served with salad or fries, for example, or seafood bake, filled with salmon, monkfish & cod, topped with creamed potatoes and toasted breadcrumbs.
It's popular with local business people at lunch time, and plain or toasted sandwiches are available to take away.
