D'Arcy's Oyster Bar & Grill

Situated at the top of Main Street opposite the Landsdowne Hotel, this well known restaurant was previously a bank and is now owned by John and Georgina Keating, who specialise in local seafood, particularly oysters.

A bank interior always lends gravitas and, with timeless jazz, understated décor and crisp white linen, it provides a pleasingly neutral setting.

A new head chef, Wayne Seberry, took over the kitchen at D’Arcy’s in the summer of 2008 and, although the Guide’s visit was made prior to his arrival, it is clear that this confident young man is determined to put both himself and D'Arcy's on the Irish culinary map.

Following UK experience with several top chefs, he has come to Kenmare via such esteemed kitchens as Paul Flynn’s Dungarvan restaurant The Tannery and, most recently, the iconic Nick’s Seafood Restaurant in Killorglin (see entries), so the scene seems to be set for a great dining experience – and, especially, a great seafood experience - here in the coming seasons.

The service at D’Arcy’s is very professional, and the well laid out seasonal menus are promptly presented, offering a wide range of oyster dishes, also other fish and seafood – including treats like lobster and black sole - some prime meats such as rack of Kerry lamb and rib-eye steak, and vegetarian dishes too.

Desserts tend towards the classic - summer pudding, crème brulée, hot chocolate fondant.

Aside from general expertise in the kitchen which makes for a special all-round experience, the offering at D’Arcy’s is different from other restaurants as its focus on oysters is interesting.
