Cathal O’Sullivan and (chef) Paul Cullen’s attractive restaurant has earned a local following, and its situation on the main street means that visitors find it very easily. It’s an inviting spot and the set-up - café by day and bistro by night - is very customer friendly.
Paul’s lunch menus are casual - soup, salads, sambos, panini, bagels - and a more structured evening menu in a French/Asian style offers half a dozen starters, and about eight main courses.
Specialities include seafood dishes like mussels with Thai green curry, and – more unusually - peppered Tipperary ostrich fillet, with crushed new potatoes, sautéed wild mushrooms, spinach & sweet red wine jus.
There will always be good local meats too, including Kilkenny beef and pork; duck also features, vegetarian dishes too - and there’s a lovely choice of desserts.
Quality ingredients, good cooking and value have spelt success for this well-run restaurant and there are plans to extend it at the time of going to press.
