This famous pub, in the village renowned for its tweeds and handknits, is a cosy, welcoming place in its seventh generation of family ownership, with five or six small rooms packed with bric à brac and plenty of tables and chairs for the comfortable consumption of wholesome home-made food, especially seafood.
Famed equally for a great pint of Guinness and the house chowder - maybe try it along with a “Louis Armstrong” (smoked salmon on brown bread topped with grilled cheese) and finish with an Irish coffee. Or there’s “Charlie’s Supper”, a speciality of prawns and smoked salmon warmed in a chilli & garlic sauce.
Things moved up a notch or two here recently, when another bar area was opened, and also an outdoor seating area with an awning, giving more room to enjoy everything this delightful pub has to offer.
Great live music too.
Bar food served daily 12-9, from Easter to September. Children welcome before 9pm (high chair, baby changing facilities); wheelchair access to toilets; free broadband wifi. Closed 25 Dec & Good Fri. No Credit Cards.
