Talbot Hotel
A sister establishment to the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin, this 1960s hotel originally dates back to 1905 and has recently undergone major renovation, including an exterior facelift.
It is well-located on the harbour-front, and also convenient to the town centre - indeed, so many activities revolve around it that many would say the Talbot is the town centre.
A warm welcome from friendly staff, plus the contented crowd that always seems to be milling around the foyer, immediately sets arriving guests at ease - and one is immediately struck by the range and quality of original paintings, which is a feature of special interest throughout the hotel.
Bedrooms are inevitably somewhat limited by the age and style of the building, but are pleasant and comfortable, with phone, TV and tea/coffee trays as standard.
The basement leisure centre is an unexpectedly characterful area, confirming the feeling that the Talbot will always spring a few surprises.
