The Huntsman Inn

Within walking distance of the city centre and easily accessible by car, this busy spot looks like a pretty row of houses and, with its colourful hanging baskets, the facade cleverly disguises a large interior. Contemporary décor and muted colours complement an airy atmosphere, and it’s a relaxed, comfortable place for flavoursome food at a reasonable price.

Friendly, efficient staff, simple table settings and uncomplicated menus reflect a refreshingly down to earth philosophy.

Varied menus begin with a good breakfast and later offer reliable favourites such as Huntsman fish cakes, char-grilled steak burger or chicken Caesar salad, with extra dishes on the evening menu including chargrilled escalopes of venison, perhaps, and Thai seafood curry; a separate children’s menu doubles as a colouring competition.

Everything is cooked with care and well presented, this is a very busy place and they manage the numbers consistently well.

The New World dominates a compact fairly priced wine list, which complements the food.

Seats 200 (outdoors, 50); L daily 12.15-3, D daily 5.30-9.30, Sun all day 12.30-9pm. All menus a la carte. House wine from €19. Bar food served daily, 12.30-9.30pm.

Air conditioning; toilets wheelchair accessible; children welcome before 9pm (high chair, childrens' menu, baby changing facilities); live music (Fri & Sat); free broadband wi/fi. Live Funky Jazz on Thurs from 6.45 pm and live music Sat from 9.30pm. Closed Good Fri, 25/6 Dec.

The 12 smart, contemporary en-suite bedrooms offer all the usual conveniences plus satellite TV and computer facilities and a good breakfast - and great value.

Rooms 12 (2 suites, 3 shower only, 6 no smoking); B&B €60pps, ss €20. Children welcome (under 10s free in parents' room, cots available free of charge). Lift. Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser. abbreviations

2 euro Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Set in pretty gardens on the edge of Lisdoonvarna town, this old hotel was re-opened by Aidan McGrath and Kate Sweeney in 2009. They renamed it The Wild Honey Inn, and the world wasted no time in beating a path to their door. A well known chef, Aidan has worked at top ...
