One of Limerick’s best-known sporting pubs, Bobby Byrne’s is over 50 years in business. Opened in 1963 by the original Bobby and his wife Helen, it quickly became a great supporter of local teams, particularly rugby.

Operated since 2003 by son Robert and family, it has since undergone major refurbishment without losing its original character and an open fire ensures a cosy atmosphere. But, while the bar is comfortingly familiar, there's also a ligfhter side to Bobby Byrne’s seen in the new outdoor cocktail garden and bar, The Bath Club - inspired by fun bathtub cocktails and rubber ducks, this unique space is a fully covered and heated venue offering a quirky cocktail list.

With breakfast beginning at 9.30am, food is served throughout the day. There's a tasty Brunch menu  available from Tuesday to Saturday,12 to 3pm  - and to 4pm on Sunday, with traditional Sunday roasts also available. Local suppliers, including local butcher Seamus Butler and Rene Cusack fishmongers, feature on menus that offer a good choice, with an emphasis on fish.

Starters include seafood chowder and monkfish scampi style, for example, while popular fish mains include roasted salmon and best ever fish and chips. Meat lovers are also well looked after and many come here especially for the steaks, or Bobby’s Ultimate Burger (8 oz of Irish beef with a secret sauce) and curry lovers will enjoy a Thai Massaman curry.

For dessert, everyone enjoys perennial favourites like the warm chocolate brownie, bread and butter pudding and the house warm apple crumble. To accompany, the wine list is mainly New World with a nod to Italy and there’s an extensive range of beers, including Irish and more local craft beers, too.

While the food is mainly traditional pub grub - which suits the sports-loving clientèle perfectly - everything is prepared freshly on site every day, tasty and well presented. Families are made very welcome and a children's menu offers smaller portions of the popular main dishes.

The friendly and well trained staff make sure everyone is well looked after and enjoying their meals - and its popularity ensures there’s always a good buzz at Bobby Byrnes.

Baking/Bakery / Café / Wine Bar
Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Outstanding Location, building or atmosphere

Since 2008 Claire Staunton's much-loved bakery and daytime café, The Good Room Café, has been one of the many good reasons to make a point of visiting Adare. The pretty 19th century cottage - which is just across the road from another favourite destina ...
