GLAMPING temporarily closed
Already well known for their wonderful free range pork (see below), in 2015 Eva and Stephen Hegarty embarked on a new enterprise, Burren Glamping, and they now offer cosy accommodation in an imaginatively converted vintage horse truck on this small farm.
It's quirky - and it's gorgeous. It's hard to imagine that a horse truck - even a 4-horse truck - would have space for all the amenities and comforts that they have somehow fitted in, but there is very cleverly arranged sleeping space for up to six people (ideally, probably, a family) with stowage for luggage tucked away in every possible space, especially under beds.
It's a bit like living on a boat - but a very luxurious boat, as there is a proper flushing toilet, a very generous-sized shower, a cosy stove and a well-equipped kitchenette among many other practical and charming features. And it is just so cute - the woodwork, much of it done with reclaimed materials, is wonderful and everything about this stylish horse truck seems designed to bring a smile to everyone's faces.
And, better still, it's much more than the usual self catering style arrangement as Eva and Stephen are offering a full package with accommodation, meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner/picnics) made with produce from their farm - and even the option of guided tours of the Burren, as Stephen is an experienced Burren Guide with over 20 years experience. (www.burren-tours.com).
Prettifying the farm yard up a bit was Eva's next project and, as for the pork, only the best of natural products are used to feed the happy Burren pigs - Saddlebacks and Saddleback/Tamworth cross - that Eva and Stephen raise to make the Burren Free Range Pork products that Eva sells at local markets (Ennis and Ennistymon).
As members of the Burren Food Trail, Burren Free Range Pork also welcomes non-resident visitors at certain times, and Eva is pleased to show people around and share the experience of life with free range pigs. You may also see her pork credited on menus in the region, and it can be bought from the farm (by appointment).
Burren Glamping is a total one-off and simply has to be seen to be believed - it's open all year too, and so well insulated that you'll be warmer here than in many a B&B.
