The Stephen Pearce Pottery is emphatically vaut le détour for the handsome homewares they handcraft so pleasingly. Anyone with so much as a kitchenette in a holiday home should make a point of calling here as just one small purchase will give a lift to any home - and always remind you of an enriching visit to a place with a 250 year old tradition of handcrafted pottery.

Unlike many lesser potters, Stephen Pearce produces just two ranges of earthenware, both of which are stunningly simple and instantly recognisable - the Traditional range of terracotta pots is decorated with a creamy white glaze, and the Shanagarry black range is fused with white glaze.

They have a timeless appeal that works well with any style of décor - and the kitchen and tableware pieces provide the perfect background for beautifully simple food.

And this can be tested on site at the charming Café at Stephen Pearce, with its rustic tiles floor and traditional kitchen chairs set around sturdy wooden tables. Blackboard menus proclaim the wholesomely delicious treats of the day - along with a short wine list.

A charming place to enjoy the simple goodness of the area’s great artisan foods, presented with panache.
