Friday 24th - Sunday 26th June 2011
This 3 day festival will commemorate and retell the story of the might and plight of the Spanish Armada through the amazing adventures of Capt. Francesco de Cuellar.
The Captain was one of the few survivors from the three ships wrecked off Streedagh Strand, Co Sligo in 1588 who lived to tell the tale and also write an account of his later experiences in Sligo & Leitrim.
To celebrate the occasion a suite of new compositions by renowned harpist & composer Michael Rooney will be performed by Ceol na nÓg, Sligeach. This orchestra, of 40 plus musicians and dancers will be joined by musicians from the premier Galician Folk organization in Santiago, Spain for a unique concert performance.
The festival will also include an exciting programme of drama, talks & lectures, heritage, dance, gourmet & maritime events at a series of venues in North Sligo throughout the last weekend in June.
