Overlooking the harbour and standing in its own grounds, this attractive quayside establishment is Kinsale’s most famous hotel, dating back to 1946 when it was created from several substantial period houses which belonged to the Acton family in the mid-19th century.
Now in common ownership with The Trident Hotel this much loved hotel re-opened in March 2013 following major refurbishment, which has been undertaken with due respect for the hotel's history while introducing a classy New England tone.
The hotel serves a wide clientele - including the local community as well as both leisure and business guests from Ireland and abroad - but all are sure to be charmed by the warm welcome and friendly service given by enthusiastic staff. The accommodation is well able to live up to any expectations raised at reception, however, as the spacious bedrooms have all been renovated to a high standard and have all the comforts demanded by today's travellers, including WiFi.
There are some lovely comfortable lounging areas on the ground floor and, although the newly named Sidney's Bar & Brasserie is not yet up and running, food is being served in the main bar which, immediately proved to be the popular destination that it always had been - and with that same friendliness that is to be encountered everywhere in the hotel.
A very good breakfast is served in a lovely room with big windows allowing views out towards the harbour. A great choice of food is offered for both the continental breakfast (fruits, mueslis, lots of juices) and the more traditional cooked breakfast (everything from kippers to the full Irish).
A fine Health & Fitness Club offers a swimming pool with separate children’s pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa; there’s also a gym, aerobics room, solarium and treatment facilities.
*** Re-opening offers include 2 nights B&B with dinner on the evening of your choice of €230 (€115 per person sharing); also a special offer of €85 B&B for a double room midweek or €100 B&B for a double room at weekends. (These rates are available until the end of June 2013.)
