This blocky, zinc-and-wood fronted waterside hotel enjoys the best location in Kinsale town and, under the watchful management of Hal McElroy, has long been a well-run, hospitable and comfortable place to stay.
Recent development has now seen major changes including - most importantly from the guest comfort point of view - the addition of 30 new front-facing executive rooms, all with king size beds and air conditioning as standard, and separate bath and shower.
Older bedrooms are also fairly spacious and comfortable, with phone, TV and tea/coffee trays (iron and board available on request), and small but adequate bathrooms.
The genuinely pubby Wharf Tavern is unchanged, and remains one of the town’s most popular good meeting places.

The restaurant, which has been refurbished and re-named, is well-located on the first floor with views over the harbour, which also makes it an exceptionally pleasant room for breakfast.
The food is good and especially welcome in winter, when many of the smaller restaurants are closed.
