Virginia Pumpkin Festival
Friday 24th October to Monday 27th October 2008
A weekend filled with live music and street entertainment. Fireworks display at Lough Ramor lakeshore with live music and food.
Virginia, County Cavan is set to host Ireland’s first and only pumpkin festival during the October Bank Holiday week-end of 24th-27th October 2008. Pumpkin festivals are common to many countries, such as the United States and Canada, but also many European countries.
This exciting event offers something for everyone. For keen pumpkin growers it is the chance to show off their produce, for home-bake enthusiasts it is the chance to see the wide range of cakes, soups, and other delicacies that can be made from this multi-purpose vegetable.
The festival will include a Pumpkin Olympics, pumpkin-themed games and competitions, a live weigh-in of Ireland’s heaviest pumpkins. There will also be an organic food fair, cookery demonstrations, craft workshops, local artists demonstrating and selling their crafts, the famous Whirligig street performers and live music.
The programme includes adult and children’s fancy dress competitions, a barn dance for young and not so young alike and a grand finale culminating in a spectacular lakeside firework display.
