Waterford Youth Arts 25th Birthday Celebrations

Waterford Youth Arts celebrate their 25 years in Waterford with Drama, Dance, Film, Music, Literature and other events throughout this weekend.

25th Birthday Festival. Running over the weekend of August 20 /21/22 WYA will celebrate with present members and families and ex-members in various locations around Waterford the birthday of the organisation. Over twenty productions, readings, dance works, film screenings are planned under the guidance of Artistic Director Nick Kavanagh.

Family Picnic Day. Also as part of the 25th Birthday on Sunday 22nd we are provisionally planning a Family Picnic Day with a number of dance pieces presented.

Memories Arts Exhibition: Other events planned for the weekend include a Memories art exhibition by ex-members and friends of WYA under the title ‘Memories’. This exhibition is curated by Linda Hatton (nee Kavanagh) and Doireann Larkin – both now based in the UK.

Pen and Pipe: Also, a new book of Jim Daly’s writings will be launched as part of the festival. Edited by Robert Browne, with help from Mark Roper and Jim Nolan, this book will contain extracts from plays, poetry and prose written by Jim over his lifetime.

The Archive: An exhibition of memorabilia from the last 25 years will also take place curated by Eimear Cheasty and Kate McCarthy. This exhibition will include posters, flyers, photos etc. but also personal items held by ex-members and families of ex-members over the years.
