The O’Dowd family have been welcoming visitors to this much-loved pub overlooking the harbour for longer than most people care to remember.

There are some new developments from time to time, but the old bar is always the same – or at least it was until recently, when the Guide was shocked to find a (very attractive) smart new facade and a new front door.

Inside it was reassuring familiar, however, and it remains one of those simple places, with the comfort of an open fire and a good pint, where people congregate in total relaxation - if they can get in (it can be very busy in the summer months).

A reasonably priced bar menu majoring in seafood offers sustenance (the seafood chowder is legendary) or, for more formal meals, the restaurant next door does the honours:mussels, crab, hot buttered lobster, in-shell Aran Bay prawns in garlic butter etc; non-fish eaters will be pleased to find some other choices, including Connemara lamb; simple puds like blackberry & apple pie to finish. Magic.
