Frances and Colm Dalton’s cheerful little red-painted town-centre bar has a characterful, traditional-look interior with green & white floor tiles and lots of wood - and is well worth seeking out for good home cooking.

It’s a friendly spot and they make a good team - Colm is chef, while Frances is the baker - providing wholesome lunches which are more restaurant meals than usual bar food, five days a week.

While there’s plenty of choice, the menu is sensibly limited to eight or nine dishes, plus a couple of specials each day; there’s an understandable emphasis on seafood - steamed mussels, crab cakes, smoked salmon with home-baked brown bread, warm seafood salad - and a sprinkling of other dishes.

Good quality, fresh ingredients and real home cooking make for some delicious flavours - and desserts (apple & blackberry crumble perhaps) are all home-made.

A short wine list offers a number of wines by the glass, and an above-average choice of quarter bottles. Outside lunchtime, Daltons operates normally, as a bar.
