Limerick Market
Milk Market, Limerick, County Limerick
Following a major renovation, this famous old market re-opened as an all-weather, all-year covered market in summer 2010 and, in addition to the main Saturday food market, there is now all-week interest.
Established in 1852, it is one of the oldest markets in Ireland but now has the most up to date facilities in the country - attracting new stallholders and some high profile speciality retailers, including Country Choice of Nenagh and the highly regarded artisan coffee roasters Pónaire Coffee from Annacotty; Pónaire (Irish for bean) operate a Roastery and Coffee Bar (Fri-Sun), where they do small batch roasting and bag up their acclaimed custom-blended beans or freshly ground coffee while you wait.
Other notable newcomers to the Milk Market include Maria Mulcahy-Durrheim's Knockara Pates from Co Tipperary, Quarrymount Free Range Meats and Spanish Point Sea Vegetables, while longstanding traders Sallymills Artisan Cakes & Desserts, now have a shop, open Wed-Sun; having built a reputation on using only the very best ingredients, it's well worth a visit.
