Clonalis House

Clonalis House is set amid peaceful parklands and stands on the land that has been the home of the O’Conors of Connacht for 1,500 years. The present house is a 45-roomed Victorian Italianate mansion and could seem a little daunting on arrival, but it’s a magic place  - and the hospitable owners, Pyers and Marguerite O’Conor-Nash, enjoy sharing the romantic history of their magnificent home with guests, who are welcome to browse through a fascinating archive of amazing heirlooms that include a copy of the last Brehon Law judgement (handed down about 1580) and also Carolan’s Harp.

Everything is on a huge scale: reception rooms are all very spacious, with lovely old furnishings and many interesting historic details, bedrooms have massive four poster and half tester beds and bathrooms to match

This wedding venues a wonderful place for a small, intimate wedding for parties of up to 20 - there is even a chapel in the grounds, and blessings are possible at the house too.

The dining room is particularly impressive, with a richly decorated table that is perfect for a special occasion; Marguerite will dress the room with flowers and, although a sit down meal would be usual at Clonalis, a buffet could be arranged if preferred. There are no restrictions except the seasonal closure, but the house is not suitable for children.

Guests staying on for a few days will find this a good base from which to explore counties Roscommon, Galway, Mayo and Sligo - a treat in store.
