Wineport Lodge

Ray Byrne and Jane English’s lovely lakeside lodge styles itself ‘Ireland’s first wine hotel’ and it is one of the most romantic destinations in all Ireland, both for its beautiful location and the luxury, service and good food to be found within.

A very hands-on wedding planning service is offered here, covering everything down to the smallest detail: menus can be tailored, table flowers are themed for you, and the pastry chef can create a cake that is a work of art. A vintage car or limousine is available (around €500) and churches nearby include Tubberclair, an attractive country church in the local parish; Ray and Jane will be present to congratulate you and greet your guests personally when you return from church - and wedding blessings are possible here too, in a unique shoreside setting which is also perfect for photographs.

The drinks reception can be held inside or on the deck by the lake, depending on the weather, and the wedding banquet - a 5-course table service meal, with complimentary pre-starter - is served in the restaurant, overlooking the water.

Exclusive use is a requirement, and timing can make a big difference to the budget as the venue charge varies dramatically: for Saturday weddings it is €3,500, reducing to €2,500 on Friday, but for midweek weddings (Sun-Thu) it is only €1,500 - and all venue charges are reduced by 50% for weddings held between November and February.

Weekend weddings must also take all rooms for both nights and the minimum number of guests permitted is higher too - this is a very fair system and there is outstanding value to be had here if you can hold your wedding off-season and midweek. Guests lucky enough to stay here will have the use of luxurious suites and guest rooms, all with private balconies overlooking the lake.

Wineport is  a very special wedding venues by any standards, and ideas unique to it include the possibility of a trip on the lake after dinner and before dancing (about €20 per person for a one-hour cruise), and staging a fireworks display - you do need to allow around €2,000 for this, but it would certainly be a spectacular grand finale to your big day.
