Marlfield House
Once the residence of the Earls of Courtown, and now an elegant oasis of unashamed luxury, where guests are cosseted and pampered in sumptuous surroundings, the Bowe family’s impressive Regency house is set in 36 acres of woodlands and immaculately maintained gardens - and imposing gates, a wooded drive, antiques and glittering chandeliers all promise a very special experience.
It is a wonderfully romantic wedding venues, civil marriages are possible here and there are many quaint churches nearby - and both the house and grounds offer superb settings for photographs. Either Margaret or Laura Bowe or Sinead Doyle will personally co-ordinate the wedding plans, and offer help with churches, music, hairdressers and whatever else is needed, including beauty treatments in your room.
The wedding reception (late lunch or dinner) is held in the elegant restaurant, where tables are dressed with candles and flowers - and the adjoining conservatory, with its stone statues and hanging baskets, is one of the most romantic spots in the whole of Ireland, especially at night by candlelight.
There is some flexibility about the style of service but the 5-course menus include coffee and petits fours, and it is possible to have buffet service for up to 80 guests, although a sit down meal seems most appropriate here. A limited number of children (up to five) are welcome, although not in the dining room - a children’s menu is served in a separate room, and babysitting can be arranged.
Accommodation includes six very grand state rooms (the vast Master Suite is complimentary to the bride and groom on their wedding night); it is necessary to take all 20 rooms and, if the wedding is on a Saturday, at least half of the rooms must also be booked for the Friday night.
This is a stunning wedding venue and midweek discounts offer good value.
