Dating back to 1852, this Dublin hotel has long had a special place in the hearts of Irish people - especially the clergy and the many who regarded it as a home from home when 'up from the country' for business or shopping in Dublin - largely because of its convenience to Heuston Station.
Although it is one of Dublin’s most iconic hotels, this Liffeyside gem on the edge of Temple Bar is elegantly hip and, since the early '90s, it has had cult status through its owners - Bono and The Edge of U2 - who completely refurbished the hotel, sparing no expense. In general they reflected the the hotel's original arts and crafts style whenever possible, although the Press Up Hospitality Group, who bought the lease in 2019, have taken a different direction in applying their house style.
Recent refurbishments include a new lobby bar, and the spacious guestrooms and suites - including a very desirable rooftop suite - offer contemporary comfort and Irish artisan-designed furniture.
Dining options include Cleaver East restaurant; created by leading chef Oliver Dunne (oliverdunnrestaurants.com), it brings a slice of hipster New York to the Temple Bar area - expect fine dining treats matched with edgy décor and smart cocktails.
The Press Up Hospitality Group also have several other restaurants nearby, which they recommend to guests staying at The Clarence.
