Maureen Tierney’s friendly and exceptionally comfortable purpose-built guesthouse is very professionally operated, and offers an attractive alternative to hotel accommodation in the centre of Kinsale - it even has private parking, and there is a drying room for wet golfing gear.

The style is a pleasing combination of traditional and modern and the spacious guest rooms have well-designed bathrooms - most with full bath and shower; as well as the more usual facilities, rooms also have computer/internet connection, safe and TV with DVD.

Guests have use of an elegantly furnished sitting room with an open fire and, although evening meals are not offered, a good breakfast is served in a pleasant dining room.

This is a very pleasing place to stay and offers good value too, in comparison with hotels.

Quietly situated on the edge of Clonakiltty, the house at the heart of this family-run hotel dates back 200 years - and it has been run as an hotel by the O'Neill family since the 1940s, which probably explains the easy hospitality that is one of its greatest assets. It ...
