The d Hotel
This cool hotel - a sister to the celebrated ‘g’ hotel in Galway - is part of an impressive waterfront development on the south bank of the River Boyne and is now setting the benchmark for high standards of rejuvenation in the centre of Drogheda, a 12th century town built by the Normans.
The development includes a shopping centre and multi-storey parking (mundane, perhaps, but very handy, and appealingly designed) as well as a riverside walkway and spacious cafe/dining areas for fine weather - and, when complete, it will also offer state of the art leisure facilities for ‘the d’.
This wedding venues contemporary lines contrast pleasingly with the old town, and the interior is bright, clean-lined, spacious and easy on the eye - unlike many style-conscious new buildings, however, it has a friendly atmosphere and staff are keen to do everything possible to make guests feel comfortable.
A huge foyer divides into the reception/lounge area, and a smart bar and restaurant (with a fabulous fish tank feature) which have pride of place right along the river frontage on the ground floor, and a lift takes guests to the function suite where are weddings are held.
This delightful space is a big surprise: it has a predictably stylish dedicated bar (with an interesting outlook over the river and new pedestrian bridge) but the function room, which is not large, is a tall, high-ceilinged room with exposed beams - a refreshing throwback to old Drogheda, which will be decorated for you by the hotel.
Guest accommodation, which is very cool and has all the technological bells and whistles, includes two penthouse suites - one of which is complimentary for the bride and groom on the wedding night.
