The location of Harry McKeogh’s modern waterside restaurant is very appealing - with just a stretch of grass between the restaurant and the River Shannon, it makes a lovely romantic setting for a wedding, especially in summer. Wedding blessings are not possible here, but there are several churches to choose from for the marriage ceremony, including the historic Cathedral of Killaloe, and a piper or other special welcome can be arranged to welcome arriving guests.
The drinks reception can be held outside in fine summer weather, otherwise the open-plan reception area is suitable and has a fire on chilly days. The wedding meal - a sit down lunch or dinner - is served in the high-ceilinged restaurant, a fine room with well-spaced, classically appointed tables and a mezzanine which adds interest to the space.
This wedding venues got no wedding planning service, but Harry and the head chef sit down with couples and discuss their particular requirements; three menus (€45, 50 & 60) are offered but they very flexible and can do anything including vegetarian, children’s or tasting menus. Tables are dressed with candles and flowers but it is otherwise the couple’s responsibility to decorate the room.
This is a lovely venue by any standards, and especially appealing for couples who appreciate the commitment to using the very best of local ingredients - the Cherry Tree is renowned for their superb beef and Mark Anderson’s stylish cooking has finesse.
