Castle Leslie Estate
During the three centuries that this extraordinary place has been in the Leslie family it has changed remarkably little - and its fascinating history intrigues guests as much as the eccentricity of Castle Leslie as they find it today.
In a charming reverse of circumstances, the family lives in the servants’ wing, so guests can enjoy the magnificence of the castle to the full - it has all the original furniture and family portraits and, since Paul McCartney chose to hold his wedding here, this characterful place has become fashionable as a wedding venue.
All weddings have the full exclusive use of The Gallery, Long Gallery, Billiard Room and Library, together with all 14 bedrooms, and the 14-acre Pleasure Gardens, from approximately lunch time on arrival to lunch time on the day of departure.
There is a Church of Ireland on the estate and within walking distance of the castle, and wedding blessings are permitted at the castle, at an additional charge. The minimum number of guests is 40 midweek or 65 at weekends (on both evenings of the mandatory 2-night stay). Up to a maximum number of 98 guests, the reception can be held in the castle or, for larger numbers, dinner can be served in a marquee, with guests returning to the castle for the evening entertainment.
This wedding venues well known for its food and menus - which do not allow for choices - are individually tailored and need to be chosen by the bride and groom at least four weeks before the wedding. Among the many unusual features of Castle Leslie is the wedding cake ceremony - which is cut by the castle’s sword!
The bedrooms are all different, furnished and decorated around a particular era, with en-suite bathrooms a feature in their own right with huge baths, wacky showers and outrageous toilets, all done in a tongue-in-cheek style, reflecting the family’s eccentric history and the wonders of Victorian plumbing - and there are no phones, television sets or clocks in the rooms.
The 2-night stay for a weekend wedding will make a lovely break as there are wonderful walks, and pike fishing, boating and horse riding on the estate are available by arrangement.
