The younger retail sister of the McMahon family’s excellent Café Rua on New Antrim Street, this brilliant deli is first port of call for many food lovers visiting the town and stocks a wide range of delicious foods and ingredients.The shop is a delight, especially if you happen to call when one of the artisan suppliers is doing a promotion. International speciality foods feature too, of course, but the McMahons are renowned for supporting quality Irish producers and, among the many local goodies on sale, you'll find Glasrai's finest mixed salad leaf and seasonal vegetable selection , Fintan Gogarty's wonderful Killala based 'Wildwood' vinegars and dressings; locally roasted Bean West coffee from Westport, Smoked fish from Achill's Gerry Hassett Gleaan Bui's delicious raw milk and yogurt and the very successful Achill Island Sea Salt.
Excellence from slightly further afield is represented by superb products such as St Tola Organic Goat's Cheese from Inagh, Co Clare and Kileen farmhouse cheeses from near Portumna, Co Galway ,smoked charcuterie and cheeses from Gubbeen farmhouse in Schull, CO Cork and the super Castlemine Farm black pudding and sausages from Co Roscommon.
Most local of all, there are the foods they make themselves - including gorgeous freshly baked cakes and breads (their Dillisk Soda Bread took the Irish Bread Award category at our 2020 Irish Breakfast Awards) and a range of chutneys, relishes and dressings, as well as wonderful made in house suppers to take home like Mayo Beef Bouguignon, Castlemine Farm lamb chilli and a wonderful piperonata and scarmoza veggie lasagne. They also sell non-food items like cookbooks and the beautiful 'Beleaf' chopping boards from Headford, Co Galway. And that's only the beginning...
