Aughnanure Castle

Built by the O'Flahertys - one of Connacht's most notable lord families - c. 1500, Aughnanure Castle lies in picturesque surroundings close to the shores of Lough Corrib. The castle is a particularly well-preserved example of one of over 200 Irish tower houses in County Galway, constructed mainly by Gaelic and Anglo-Norman land owning families. There is the remains of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn and bastions and a dry harbour.

Opening Time:

Open 5th April-24th October, Daily 9.30am-6pm.

Admission Charge:

Adults €3; Child/Student €1; OAP/Group €2; Family €8.
