Set right in the heart of Roscommon town, overlooking the square, Mary and Eamonn Gleeson’s townhouse and restaurant provides just what every visitor requires: a warm welcome, comfortable rooms and wholesome food.

Over the last 25 years or so, they have made huge changes to their nineteenth century home and their daughter Cáit has now joined the team as General Manager. What started out as just a coffee shop and four rooms has grown to offer 19 ensuite bedrooms, the original coffee shop and a restaurant. The hotel standard bedrooms are very comfortable, with all the usual facilities, including WiFi, and some are pet friendly. There’s a junior suite and an excellent executive suite with adjoining sitting-room that would make an ideal base for touring the area.

The coffee shop opens for breakfast along with homemade scones, bread and cakes, and the all day menu includes a delicious seafood chowder and their signature dish, Mary's famous Roscommon Lamb Stew.

Manse Restaurant:

The Gleesons are great supporters of local produce, buying organic when possible – their own family farm supplies the lamb. An excellent residents' breakfast is served in the restaurant until 11.30 - freshly baked breads, croissants and brioche, fresh juices, cereals and porridge served with honey and cream, homemade brown bread – plain or treacle and walnut - then hot dishes like the full Irish breakfast or avocado, spinach and poached eggs on toasted sourdough.

Quite an extensive all day menu offers a good choice, maybe starting with that famous chowder, packed with fresh fish and served with home-made breads. Follow with the house speciality, Roscommon Lamb Stew in a fragrant rosemary and thyme broth (using organically reared lamb from the family farm) or Gleeson’s Super Salad, an energising combo of fresh ingredients including organic salad leaves, pomegranate, butternut squash, beetroot and mixed seeds. The kids menu is appetising with a choice of mains including steak and lasagne as well as other pasta dishes.

Delicious homemade desserts include a very moreish sticky toffee pudding, and good coffee. A reasonably priced wine list includes some organic wines, and there are also some craft and bottled beers, a gin menu and an excellent selection of whiskeys.
