Glasson Hotel & Golf Club

This Christy O'Connor Jr. designed parkland course provides an ideal place to break up a journey across Ireland with some of the most scenic parkland golf around.

Glasson hotel & Golf Club is about 10km (6m) north of Athlone in Ireland's midlands, with Lough Ree and the River Shannon visible from almost every part of the course.  This was one of the earlier designs by Christy O'Connor Jnr, yet the way he complemented a wonderful site, suggests the hand of a master.

Having farmed the land like his father before him, Tom Reid possessed an intimate knowledge of the area when he took the decision to develop a golf course there in the early 1990s. Since then, it has become very much a Reid family enterprise through the addition of an on-site, stay-and-play hotel.

"One of the most scenic pieces of land I've ever seen in my life, with the first nine holes overlooking Lough Ree and the second nine Killenure Bay. There is nothing I've seen that comes close to that" - Christy O'Connor Jr.
