Situated on the scenic Ring of Kerry section of the Wild Atlantic Way and just a few kilometres from the magnificent Rossbeigh Beach, The Glenbeigh Hotel would be a good choice for an overnight or longer stay, with many attractions and activities nearby, including the Kerry Way walking route and Kells Bay Gardens, famed for subtropical plants.

One of those 'nice old-fashioned hotels' that used to be so familiar in Ireland, this gem of an almost bygone era dates back to 1792, when it first opened as a coaching inn, and it has since had a number of famous owners including the founder of nearby Dooks Golf Links, Captain O'Shea. It was bought by the Keary family in 1988 and the current General Manager, Brian Keary - who is also owner of the wonderful Jack's Coastguard Restaurant at Cromane (see entry) - has recently undertaken extensive improvements, with the hands-on assistance of Hotel Manager Karena O’Sullivan, to bring it up to the standard demanded by today's traveller while retaining its old world charm and elegance.

Bedrooms vary, as is the way with old buildings, and the WiFi is variable but all are comfortable and some have lovely views over the gardens and out to Rossbeigh. A  good cooked to order breakfast is served in the beautiful Garden Room restaurant, which is also used for events, while other meals are served in the very pleasant big bar or in a garden area set up for outdoor dining.

Chef Noel Dennehy is well known for using local produce well, especially Glenbeigh Mussels, which are big and full of flavour and typically served in a delicious light garlic and herb cream sauce. The menu focuses on the most popular regular dishes, but there are always daily specials too, including plenty of local seafood. Also a children's menu offering quality versions of the usual suspects, such as homemade chicken goujons and chips.

Service is terrific and the staff are a great asset. Every single one of them is friendly, efficient and pro-active, they just can't do enough to help.

All round this small hotel is a delight.
