Killarney Royal Hotel
Another of Killarney’s unrivalled collection of fine hotels, this family-owned establishment is a charming older sister to the luxurious Hayfield Manor Hotel in Cork city (see entry).
Proprietors Joe and Margaret Scally have lavished care and investment on it, resulting in a beautifully furnished hotel in an elegant period style that is totally appropriate to the age and design of the building.
No expense was spared on the highest quality of materials and workmanship, air conditioning was installed throughout the hotel and individually designed rooms all have sitting areas and marbled bathrooms.
But what is most remarkable, perhaps, is the warm and friendly atmosphere that prevails throughout the hotel, conveyed through the soft warm tones chosen for furnishing schemes, and the attentive attitude of friendly, caring staff.
A combination of light contemporary food and heartier fare is offered throughout the day in the informal bar/bistro area, which is a popular meeting place, while the main restaurant – which has recently been smartly refurbished – is more formal, and reservations are required.
