Within walking distance from town (first right past the double-arched bridge towards Bantry), Hannah Boland’s wonderfully cosy and homely house was built in 1801 and enjoys beautiful views across Kenmare Bay.

A programme of renovations and refurbishments in recent years has brought about great improvements to this pleasant house, without changing its warm and tranquil character in any way.

A couple of new superior rooms had seemed to make the original ones feel old-fashioned by comparison, but then all the bedrooms were upgraded and with fresh new bathrooms too. Each room has its own individuality (and its special view) but all are comfortable and individually furnished with free-standing period pieces, pleasant fabrics and cleverly hidden tea/coffee-making facilities.

Another recent round of improvements included an extension to the comfortable and pleasingly furnished guest sitting/TV room, which has an open fire for chilly days and also opens directly onto the garden.

Very good breakfasts are served in a cheerful bright blue dining room, cooked-to-order by Hannah on her trusty Aga.

This is very much a home where you can relax - in fine weather, guests can enjoy gardens that slope down towards the bay, and you can even play tennis on the all-weather court.
